Birds, the theme these holidays. The children made 3D birds, photographed them in situ, glued the photos onto to the lids of boxes and added paint. The photos were also projected onto the wall, drawn onto then painted.

Sensational Spiders March 2010

These art works were created by painting a spider habitat of the child's choice onto an already underpainted piece of paper. On to the habitat each child drew a spider web with a gold or silver pen. The spiders were drawn onto paper that was cut into a stencil by an adult.
The spider was then printed onto the web.

All artworks were displayed in our Spider exhibition which was visited by
many families and friends of the children.

That's a gingerbread man. It lives in a spiderweb.

It's black, 10 legs. Spiders can move really fast.

I painted a fence with a spider web and I drew a beautiful spider. Spiders eat flies.

Flies go into the sticky web then the flies get stuck and then the spiders roll them up and the spider drinks all the juicy bits out.

It’s behind the branch. Spiders are black and they are quite scary. They have nine legs. They have long legs. A fly gets into the web and he eats it. There are small spider and big spiders.

Then he ate the fly’s mouth. Then he ate the nose! Then he ate the spider web!

And then he ate some trees! Then he ate the sky! Then he ate the brown mud!

My spider is in my sister’s Kindy’s rabbit cage.

He made his web by Australia. It looked a like an apple. He eats ladybirds.

He catches them with his legs. He uses nail clippers and puts them in his mouth.

My spider made his web in the ropes down stairs where we get to the deck. There are three of them. They’re normal spiders. They eat flies and they have a little bug catcher to catch the flies and they have a little lever to pull it so the fly is trapped and they can’t get out because they are stuck! And when it is raining the rain gets on the web and it sparkles! They wrap it up when they catch it before they eat it and that’s all I want to tell you!

They don’t actually make their web from tree to tree, they build it on the ground so that if desert fly lands on the desert they run off their web and go and jump on the fly and put a little thread on it and drag it home on their thread.

December Holiday Art Programme for School age children

Just before Christmas in December 2009 and a group of enthusiastic primary school children jcame together for 3 days of Arty Kids classes.
Lots and lots of creative work was produced. This is a sample of the out put!

Dinosaur Paintings from Term 3 2009

These paintings were done over a period of time.

They started with underpainting, added a habitat, then a large,

black shadowy dinosaur was painted. On top of this the child

ren screenprinted another dinosaur finished with features in silver pen.

We spent months talking, researching, drawing and writing books about dinosaurs before embarking on these paintings. The story about our dinosaur journey will soon be posted on our Kids at Kindy blog. http://kidsatkindy.blogspot.com

Arty Kids July Holiday classes

Arty Kids holiday Classes.

These popular classes have been held this first week of the holidays.

Each session has started with a drawing exercise, followed by screenprinting, painting on paper and canvas painting.

It takes 3 sessions to finish all the projects.

But it's not all hard work - there's

plenty of time for eating, swinging on the monkey bars and making new friends!

For many months every time Christy came to Kindy she would carefully paint on very small pieces of card. She jumped at the opportunity to paint on some squares of MDF.

These she painted on over several weeks adding a layer each time she came. Finally she added gold and silver detailing and the works were finished.

A mexican fish was the motivation for these screenprints. After drawing the fish the girls cut out the templates using craft knives! This took a lot of care and time!!! We really needed another day on the screen prints to do them justice.

Arty kids classes were held for 3 days in the first week of the Sept school holidays.
The children came for 2 hours each morning and we worked them hard! They kept us busy too!
We did drawing exercises each day and also made some colourful screen prints.
We forgot to photograph the screen prints so if you ' Sept 08 arty kids' would email a photograph of your screen print to us we will add it to our blog!

When Kieran was at St AndrewsEpsom ECC he was totally fascinated by trains. He knew all about Thomas the Tank engine and his friends and drew them at every opportunity. When everyone else was doing screenprints about kiwi - he was doing Rosie the engine!

Now that he's a school boy he's moved onto cars - Lightening McQueen and his cohorts!

Pirate Treasure

Ahoy there me hearties! Pirates are all a-happening at Kindy at the moment so it was easy to suggest making a 'movie' about pirates. Once again it was a combined effort by a number of children who participated before getting distracted by having their faces painted as a pirate or sailing way in their pirate ship to the tropics!
Ella, Theo, and somebody else, but I can't remember who, drew the pirates.
Theo dictated the text (and named the pirates!), he also drew the pirate ship - note the propellor under the hull!
Emma and Christy assisted in the scene where the pirates sailed back to their ship. Christy coloured in the dinghy - that took some while! Jack M assisted thoughout with encouragement and suggestions...Michelle...Michelle...! He drew the treasure chests after careful observation of our treasure chest at Kindy.
At present the concept of making an animated movie is still new to all the children (does that include staff??!) so the plan is to complete the 'movie' as soon as possible. At this stage we are not concentrating on sophisticated artwork...that will come!

The Olympics

We made this 'movie' using the idea of a race in the Olympics.
It was easy for the children to grasp the idea about moving the images and photographing them at each stage with the background remaining the same.
The difficulty was deciding who was going to win!! Each of the three children wanted their runner to win!

The children enjoy checking out the photos on the camera after the sequence has been taken. Using Picasa the children can quickly see the product of their labour.

The Dinosaur family go to Rarotonga

This 'movie' was a cooperative venture - created by a fluid group of boys and girl! Samuel had the original concept of going to Rarotonga, Caleb was responsible for the clown, slide and ferris wheel segments with help from Lucy and others. Fraser provided the script to go with the photos. Lots of others gave moral support and assistance (or otherwise!).
